VAN HALEN - Manchester and Hanley, England 1978

More early Van Halen shows? Why the heck not. These two nifties are from the same week of that first U.K. tour in early summer 1978 (opening for the galumphing, last-legged Black Sabbath I believe) - May 22nd in at the Apollo in Manchester and May 23rd at Victoria Hall in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Sound quality is comparable to the previous post -- that is to say, rawkin' good.

Thanks for the Van Halen Boots. I saw them open for Sabbath in Philly in '78 and they blew Sabbath off the stage! Black Sabbath looked flat worn out, and Van Halen was kickin' it.

Nice post, Green Alien Chick (hmm... check out Haunted Garage's song "Little Green Men")

I was 15 yrs old and just missed out on tickets for this Manchester show - two nights at this 3,500 seat theater sold out in about 5 minutes. Ouch..

I was a major Sabbath fan and was really digging the new Van Halen debut album, so this would have been a show to die for.

thankfully, I can now at least listen to one of those shows. thanks again for posting it :)

My best regards to hollywood.. I lived in LA throughout the whole of the 1990's and miss it quite a lot.

Do you have or does anyone else have the London Hammersmith show they can post? I was at this show. Went to see Sabbath, never heard of Van Halen. I was blown away by the whole show. I have never seen a support band come back for 3 encores. Next day it was announced that Sasbbath had kicked them off the tour! Would love to hear this show again. bluesBob.
